How do we see Jesus?
In the book of Revelation, the apostle John proclaimed that Christ is coming with clouds so that every eye will see Him. This raises an important question: how do we see Christ in our present phase of history? Rev 1:7. Jesus Christ has been raised, seated, and glorified at the right hand of the Father. He has been given the name above every name. He has been raised far above all principalities and powers in the heavenly places.
In his letter to the Hebrews, the apostle Paul identified this reality, but also said that we do not yet see all things in subjection under His feet. Heb 2:8. He said, ‘But we do see Him who, for a little while, was made lower than the angels; namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honour, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for every man.’ Heb 2:9.
We see Jesus in this way because, in this world, we are mortal, and still need to come to maturity as sons of God. For this reason, we can only truly see Christ as the One who is giving to us a participation in His offering and His sufferings. Php 3:10. This is the offering He made as He tasted the suffering of death for every man. It is in the fellowship of this offering, with Christ, that we are being changed, and are growing up as sons of God, into the image of Christ.
